Bypassing Torrent Filters

If you find yourself in a similar situation as me, being stuck using work, college campus or under the rule of an overaggressive network administrator, you understand the my frustration when attempting to download torrents.

The network that I am using currently has a .torrent filter but with a little bit of tweaking torrent clients will still work. The problem is that the .torrent filter will block all files with the .torrent extension. If you are using Demonoid or a service that allows you to download the torrents as a .txt file this is no problem; however if you prefer to use piratebay.org or a different service that does not allow downloading torrents as .txt files there is a tool that can help you out.

Txtor, from http://txtor.dwerg.net is a simple script that will read the public torrent file that you supply the path to and offer it to your browser to download as a .txt file. After downloading all you need to do is to change the .txt to .torrent! Also, some torrent clients can read the txt file as is!
